OUR MISSION
REIMAGINING THE
CAREER TRAJECTORY
FOR FUTURE MAKERS
THE PROBLEM:
TALENT ISN’T THE PROBLEM.
ACCESS IS.
Black men remain underrepresented in K–12 classrooms, while many college students have never been encouraged to consider teaching.
Financial barriers, limited paid experiences, and certification challenges can prevent promising educators from entering the profession.
Summer House addresses where talent gets lost along the pathway into teaching.
OUR SIGNATURE SOLUTION

learning by doing
Our six-week curriculum combines hands-on experience with professional development, mentorship, and guided reflection to prepare Fellows for careers in teaching.
Through educator-led workshops, school-based experiences, and collaborative learning, Fellows strengthen their leadership, explore classroom practice, and develop their professional identities.
Each summer culminates in a capstone experience where Fellows reflect on their growth, share what they’ve learned, and identify their next steps toward becoming educators.
EDFEST | EDUCATION FOR THE CULTURE
WHERE EDUCATION MEETS COMMUNITY.
EdFest is Summer House Institute’s signature convening, bringing together aspiring and practicing educators, education leaders, and community partners to learn, connect, and celebrate the teaching profession.
Through meaningful conversations, professional development, cultural experiences, and networking, EdFest creates opportunities for Fellows to build relationships, expand their perspectives, and see themselves as part of a larger community of educators
More than a conference. A celebration of educators, culture, and community.
