$40 MILLION.

411 SCHOOL SYSTEMS.

Texas is investing in the educator pipeline.

Texas has announced $40 million for 411 school systems through the Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships (PREP) Program Allotment. The funding is intended to help schools recruit future teachers, prepare them for the classroom and mentor educators at the start of their careers.

Created under House Bill 2, the PREP allotment supports several routes into teaching, including “Grow Your Own” programs, teacher residencies and mentorship. These approaches can help school systems develop local talent and give new educators more support as they enter the profession.

For communities working to expand and sustain a diverse educator workforce, the next question is how participating systems will use the funding—and whether the programs help candidates enter teaching and remain in the field. The Texas Education Agency has published information about the allotment and participating systems.
